0.Overview

  • University members can make Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests. 1. [Photocopy], 2. [Loan]
    * It is impossible to make requests if the material is available on your home campus. To obtain such materials, please visit the holding library in person.
  • The approximate fees and times are as follows.
Intercampus Loan ServiceInterlibrary Loan Service
ChargePhotocopyIt costs 10-20 yen per page. Postage is free.
*In some cases, it costs 60-80 yen per page in color.
It costs 35-60 yen per page in monochrome / 100-150 yen per page in color plus postage.
Please note some libraries require additional charges.

Wait periodIt takes a few days to 1 week to obtain material.

  • You can use private expenses and public expenses.
    *Please refer to the List of Libraries which accept Interlibrary Loan Requests.

    <Private expenses>
    Private funds can be used only in some libraries*.
    If your department library does not support private expenses, the Main Library will handle your request.
    *Main Library, Uji Library, Yoshida-South Library, The Medical Library, The Library of Graduate School / Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate School/Faculty of Agriculture Library, The Library of the Institute for Research in Humanities, and Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies Library.

    <Public expenses>
    Please submit "Application for MyKULINE" [PDF] to the counter at the first time. (A signature or seal of the person responsible for the budget is required.)

    *eDDS (Electronic Document Delivery Service)
    When using public expenses, you can read copies (PDF) sent from KU libraries on computers, smartphones, etc. connected to the campus network environment.
    ・You can view the PDF for two weeks.
    ・In order to comply with copyright laws, you may only print one copy, and the PDF cannot be saved on your computer.
    ・Additionally, redistribution of PDFs and printed materials to third parties is strictly prohibited.

1.How to apply

  • When you search on KULINE and find holdings at KU libraries:
    Click on the "Copy" button.
  • When you search on KULINE "OtherUniv Search" and find holdings at other institutions:
    Click on "ILL" on the left side menu.
  • When you cannot find holdings on KULINE/KULINE "OtherUniv Search":
    1) Click on the "User Service" tab at the top of the page.
    2) Apply from "InterLibraryLoan/Photocopy Request".

2.Notes

  • [Loan] Please make one order for each book.
  • [Loan] Some lending libraries require that borrowed materials be used in the borrowing library only or prohibited to copy.

  • [Photocopy] Please make one order for each article.
  • [Photocopy] You can request photocopies only within Copyright Law.
    ・【Journals】: Journals that have been published for a certain period of time after publication (The next issue has been already published or three months have passed since the publication) may be photocopied.
    ・【Books】: Only a part of an entire book may be photocopied. For collected papers written by multiple authors, less than half of each article may be photocopied. ※In principle, full-page photocopies of books are not allowed.
    ・Photocopying is permitted only for research purposes, and only one photocopy can be made per person. Regardless of whether or not compensation is received, recopying or distribution of photocopies is prohibited.

  • Some libraries have restrictions on the number of requests that can be made at one time. (cf. Main Library......[Photocopy] Up to 10 requests per day, [Loan] Up to 1 item at once.

  • [Volume and Article Information] and [Document Information] column on the application screen
    Please fill in the Material information details.
    If you can not fill in the column, please write "unknown".
    If the requested information is not correct, the wait time may be extended.
  • [Comments] column on the application screen
    Please fill in the information that you would like to let us know like the below examples
    ・Photocopy: (e.g.) Please make color copies of all colored images within the article.
    ・Loan: (e.g.) I want to cancel this request if the item is in-library use only or prohibited to copy.
    If you have located the material in a specific library, please write it in detail.
    ・(e.g.) National Diet Library NDL ONLINE, BL-OPAC, X university OPAC
    ・(e.g.) Web of Science、PubMed、CiNii、Scopus
    When a material which is originally available at Kyoto University becomes unavailable for a certain reason (lost, on loan for a long period, library under construction), please write the reason.

3.Troubleshooting

When you cannot make requests, please contact Kyoto University Library KULINE Services WG. Please give the following information.

  • Your name and faculty
  • When the trouble occurred
  • Request information
  • Content of the error message displayed
