Kyoto University Library Network has digitized and publicized 358 architectural drawings by Josiah Conder, important cultural property, held by the Library of Architecture, as part of our Open Access Promotion Project.
Digitized drawings include many important masterpieces by Conder, such as Shimazu, Furukawa and Naruse Residences. Publishing these drawings online is expected to increase the use of these materials by many researchers in a variety of academic fields and contribute to the development of their research. Moreover, since Josiah Conder was one of the architects who established the foundation of Japanese modern architecture, online publishing of his drawings will let the world know an important aspect of Japanese architecture.
The digitized images are available on Kyoto University Library Network's OPAC, kuline. Kyoto University Library Network intends to publicize images of higher resolution on an upcoming system compliant with International Image Interoperability Framework, IIIF, around August, 2017.

Also, the project is promoting collaboration with other research communities inside and outside of the university and international dissemination of collected contents.
*2 Josiah Conder (1852-1920) - British architect, who was engaged in planning Japanese Meiji Government-related buildings and fostered many Japanese architects as a professor of Imperial College of Engineering. He also drew many plans for residences of financiers.
