Natural History is the study of natural objects including animals, plants and minerals; collecting, recording and categorizing the information of their species and characteristics.

This collection includes important works on natural history such as Flora Japonica and Fauna Japonica by P.F.B. von Siebold, Histoire naturelle by G.L. de Buffon and Systema naturae by C. von Linne.

These images, some with detailed explanation, were first made open to the public in the former Kyoto University's Digital Library in 2001 or later. Images in higher resolution are now available in Kyoto University Rare Materials Digital Archive.

"Thai Newspaper Collection during World War II" held by CSEAS was digitized from three newspapers published in Thailand during World War II and now held by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University. The publishers no longer exist and part of the issues of the newspapers are difficult to find even in Thailand. (This project received permission for digitization from National Library of Thailand.)
