Q1:　I have some questions about searching in KULINE (Kyoto University Library Online Catalog).

A1:　Please refer to "Help" (OPAC User guide) in the top right-hand corner of the KULINE screen.

Q2:　I am looking for old materials (classical books, etc.), but I can't find them in KULINE.

A2:　Books published before 1985 may not be searchable in KULINE, so please also search the card catalog of Kyoto University Library (the Main Library).

　In addition, Japanese classics and Chinese classics may not be searchable in KULINE. In such cases, please use the following search methods.

1. Please enter keywords, etc. to search in Union Catalogue Database of Japanese Texts (National Institute of Japanese Literature).
2. If you find "京大" or "京大●●" in the "whereabouts information in "KOKUSHO SO MOKUROKU"" field of the search results, the work is in the library on campus (for various reasons, it may not be held at present).
3. For the actual holding status, please ask a librarian (the application form for reference service). Also, please include the URI of Union Catalogue Database of Japanese Texts. Library staff will check the card catalog.
4. When using materials, please inform the holding library of information such as the title and registration number. （List of KU Libraries）

Q3:　I would like to know about newspapers and newspaper databases available on campus.

A3:　Please refer to Find Resources - Newspaper.

E-Journals & Databases

Q1:　I have some questions about using e-journals and databases.

A1:　To use e-journals and databases, you need to set up the "e-Journal and Database Authentication System". For more details, please refer to How to use e-resources. If the problem is still not resolved, please contact us from Question of EJ/DB (E-Resources).

Borrowing

Q1:　How many books can I borrow?

A1:　The number of books you can borrow varies from library to library. Please check List of KU Libraries for detail.

Q2:　I have already borrowed the maximum number of books from other libraries on campus. Can I borrow any more books from this library?

A2:　Each library has its own usage rules, so even if you have borrowed up to the maximum limit at another library, you can still borrow books under the rules of this library.

Q3:　In the KULINE search results, the name of the location is not a library, but is it a research lab? Can I borrow books from the laboratory?

A3:　If you would like to use books held in a laboratory, please contact the library of the department to which the laboratory belongs. Please note that if the book is in use in the laboratory, it may take some time before it becomes available, the loan period may be shorter than usual, and you may not be able to borrow the book.

Q4:　Can I borrow a book whose status in the search results of KULINE is "Lab"?

A4:　If you would like to use books whose status is "Lab", please contact the library of location. Please note that if the book is in use in the laboratory, it may take some time before it becomes available, the loan period may be shorter than usual, and you may not be able to borrow the book.

Q5) When I tried to extend the due date of books I borrowed through MyKULINE, the due date was not updated.

A5:　When you extend through MyKULINE the due date of books you borrowed, the due date will be updated, starting from the renewed date. Please note that such online renewals do not extend the original due date.

Q1:　What's MyKULINE?

A1:　Please refer to Guide to Kyoto University Library Network Online Services.

Q2:　When making a reservation, there are two options: [Order Reservation] and [Keep Order]. What are the differences?

A2:

[Order Reservation]

• Make reservations for books which status is currently "On loan".
• Order books from other campus to the library of your department.

[Keep Order]

• Place holds on books not on loan.
  *The following libraries offer the service.

• Apply for the book delivery service.

Q1:　Where can I use a PC Terminal?

Q2:　I would like to make copies of library materials. Is there a copy machine in the library?

A2:　Please check the website of each library to find out whether or not each library has a copy machine.

　If the materials you would like to copy are available for check-out, but the copy machine is not available in the library, please use the University Co-op store near the library that has a copy machine.

Q3:　I have an assignment to create it while discussing it with my group. Is there a place on campus where we can use it while discussing?

A3:　Please refer to Spaces for self-study. Places where the "このスペースの特徴" column is "双方向授業（発話可）" or "グループ利用" are spaces where you can use the space while discussing.

　*Places other than the library
　　　　In addition to the library, Kyoto University also has spaces for group study.

Dissertations

Q1:　I would like to read a dissertation from Kyoto University.

[Master's theses, Graduation theses]
Kyoto University Library generally does not hold master's theses and graduation theses. In some cases, the library of the faculty or graduate school where you received your degree may hold the thesis. Please contact the library of the faculty or graduate school where you received your degree.
