About Use of Japanese-Style Bound Books
About use of Japanese-style bound books shelved in the B3 stack in Kyoto University Main Library, please read the following explanation.
Many of the books are severely damaged. Before using them, please also read "Handling Manual of Japanese-Style Bound Books".
Reading and Loan
- The loan period and number of the books you can borrow are the same as those of other stack books.
- Loan Period:1 month
- Maximum Loan Limit:(Students)up to 10 books/(Faculties or Staff members)up to 30 books
- When you borrow or return the books, please come to the counter of the Main Library.
- Self-checkout machines are not available.
- Book chutes are not available.
- The books are not delivered to other libraries in the campuses.
- Depending on the book’s condition, the loan is declined.
Making Copies
1. Paper Copy
- Making paper copies of the books is conducted by library staff or a designated vendor. Making paper copies with copiers by users themselves is not allowed.
- If the total number of pages you require is within 10 per 1 book or within 20 per multiple books, making paper copies is conducted by library staff. If the number is more than those, it is done by a designated vendor.
- Non-Kyoto University members also can obtain paper copies of the books via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). If you would like to apply, please contact our ILL unit via an institutional library or public library.
- In the email, please include the book’s information and the desired pages of Paper Copy.

2. Photography
- In Main library, photography of the books with a smartphone or digital camera is allowed. If you would like to apply, please contact our photography unit.
- In the email, please include the book’s information and the desired date and time of photography.
