Caution: Appropriate Use of Electronic Resources

 On 2013-12-17 (3287 reads)

Since the beginning of this academic year, Kyoto University has already
been warned several times by vendors and publishers of electronic
resources that they detected inappropriate use of the resources from our
IP address range. As a result, access to a specific electronic journal
was suspended each time until the source of the incident was identified
and the problem resolved.

Use of electronic resources is subject to license agreements with
vendors and publishers.
Prohibited actions generally include:
- Downloading of a large number of records in a short period of time(*),
including but not limited to:
automatic/systematic downloading
downloading of the majority of the articles of a specific journal
- Any use beyond personal purpose
- Duplication or redistribution, etc.

Any other activities that may impose an unacceptably large burden on the
servers are prohibited. Even unintended actions may be considered as
violation: for example, one incident was caused by the F5 function key
left pressed unintentionally.

* Downloading includes opening a PDF file directly inside a web browser
on your computer.

Violation of the terms and conditions of the license agreement may
result in suspension of the service for the entire Kyoto University
community. Please keep in mind that all the members of the university are
responsible for complying with the license agreement.
