[Library Network] Kyoto University Rare Materials Digital Archive: A reverse side of Chronicle of the Kamakura Period have been newly released
Additional images 46-56 are now available. (2022/4/25)
Kamakura Nendaiki (鎌倉年代記) is a chronicle of the Kamakura Period. It was formerly owned by the Mibu family and now in the possession of the Main Library.
The front side of the folded book is already available on Kyoto University Rare Materials Digital Archive, and now the reverse side has been digitized and released.
On the front page, each vertical column corresponds to a year, with a summary of the major figures’ appointments and biographies.
The reverse side contains the events of the year corresponding to the front side, and also includes many records not founded in other historical documents.

As of April 25, 2022, Kyoto University Rare Materials Digital Archive provides 1,872,223 images of 23,250 titles.

It is a comprehensive corporate information database. It contains securities reports, company overviews, financial information, market information, various filings and reports, financial statements, and timely disclosure documents. Useful for job hunting!

How to use the library
Opening hours
9:00~19:00 on Weekdays
*After 17:00 please use the door on the 2nd floor which can be opened by IC card. If you have a facility use certificate, you need another registration to use the library.
Service hours(Katsura Library)
2nd Floor
- Information Desk
: Borrow and return books or get the request books here. You can also apply for facilities in the library. - Open Lab & Research Commons (Website is Japanese only)
: These areas are designed to encourage researches` interacting and intellectual activities of students outside of their affiliated laboratories. You can also use these areas to work with a researcher who are not a member of Kyoto university.
It is possible to use not only as the place for group work or discussion but also as the exhibition hall of academic conference. - Media Creation Room & Studio (Website is Japanese only)
: Media creation room is for create research and study contents. (Reservation required)
We also have Studio to record or edit a movie and make a graphic contents.
1st Floor
- Reading Room
: Mainly, books published since the 1990s and new journals are placed.
The main subject of items is natural science. We also have useful books about writing papers or making a presentation. In addition there are best-sellers and liberal education books. - Stack 1
: The books are stacked by the faculty of engineering departments. You can freely enter and browse. - Group Study Rooms
: Spaces for group study and discussion.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, currently they are used to take a speech lecture or an online meeting alone.(Registration required) - Theater Room
: Space for viewing video materials.(Reservation required)
Equipped with soundproofing, you can watch Blu-ray and DVD on a 4K-compatible 85inch TV. - Lounge
: Relaxation area with sofas, beverages and todays' newspaper. - Terrace
: The south terrace on the 1st floor is open on sunny day. You can work on PC or read books at ease viewing Kyoto city.
Basement Floor
If you need the item on the basement floor, please ask library staff at the information desk or use Place a Hold Service.

: Especially old items are stored in the underground stack. - Journals
: Journals' back numbers are stored in the underground stack. - Natural Science BNC (Back Number Center) Journals
: The Katsura Library, which is an Area Cooperative Library, has collected a total of 3,765 titles from the BNC (Back Number Center) including selected titles in the field of natural sciences, to serve as the shared facility for the joint preservation of science and engineering materials across the university.

: Online space reproduced in 3D. You can access it through your own PC and smartphone, and learn how to use Katsura Library. - "Katsura-no-Niwa" : Catalogue for Advanced Research of Graduate School of Engineering (Website is Japanese only)
: This project shows the research activities worked on at the graduate school and faculty of engineering.
We introduce "Research Seeds" which are difficult to see but blossom in the future by opening a door of laboratory.
"Katsura-no-Niwa" exhibition booth is in Katsura library. The movies of interview and demonstration experiment are on YouTube. Don't miss it!
